Castel Santangelo, Rome

This is the fort where the Pope used to hide out when Rome was under seige. Built by the Emperor Hadrian (117-138) as a Mausoleum for himself and his successors, Castel Sant'Angelo was completed by Antoninus Pius in 139. It's on the Tiber, about 2 blocks from our hotel.
